About this deal

Miller's influence on the Matthew Williamson brand was hugely significant and she became something of a muse for the then fashion designer. Everything has to have a little bit of a worn and torn quality’: the mint green bedroom, with floral bedspread. So he started designing homewares (pieces from his current collection with John Lewis, like two glamorous palm-tree lamps, are scattered around his home) and then homes too, arriving at hotels and houses with his 20 questions, and an eye for colour, and a gentle air of curiosity. From bedding to lighting, cushions to mirrors, the collection is a celebration of rustic decadence for every room.

Kurt Geiger, the iconic shoe brand, has expanded it’s line into all manner of accessories from bags to beachwear and sunglasses to jewellery. The intricate characters of the three specially created tea blends are also reflected in the elaborate artwork. In 2007, Matthew and his team celebrated 10 years of the brand’s existence with an exhibition at the London Design Museum showcasing the highlights of his first decade in the spotlight, and a 10th-anniversary show at London Fashion Week (after having exclusively shown at New York Fashion Week for the preceding five years).

He bumped into Nicole Farhi, who’d quit fashion for art, and she said to him, earnestly, “‘I can’t believe how much I used to care about a white shirt. Meaning, you need to talk about yourself, Matthew Williamson – it’s not just the dresses the press are interested in, it is you – you must be the brand. I wanted the rugs to be practical and last a lifetime, but also to bring a touch of whimsy and joy to any room. In October 2012, Williamson commemorated his 15 years in the fashion industry by creating a short film starring Sienna Miller, Poppy Delevingne and Andrea Riseborough. Growing up in Manchester in the 1970s, Matthew’s passion for colour, aesthetics and design was catalysed by his Mother.

Matthew’s first range of bespoke furniture launched in 2016, created in collaboration with Nottingham-based sofa manufacturer Duresta. Not long after the 5-year milestone, Matthew received two successive nominations for Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 1999 and 2000. Deià Meadow went on to win ELLE Decoration Wallpaper of the Year 2019, while other designs can be seen in hotels, restaurants, and exquisite homes around the world. Its respect for provenance, authenticity and its unrivalled skill was a huge draw, and resonates with my passion for unique and well-made homewares.Perhaps that’s why, he admits, despite his success, his work has never really been considered… cool. Working with hand-woven rugs, for this reason, is a dream come true for me, especially working with Obeetee – a world leader in the creation of exquisitely hand-crafted rugs. Just two years after graduating, Matthew founded a partnership company with Joseph Velosa in September 1996.
