Wipe up as much Epoxy as possible with a dry cloth. Any remaining product/residue can be removed with soap and water, Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or acetone (as per manufacturer’s instructions). For cured/dried Epoxy use mechanical means such as scraping or sanding. The epoxies tested include Gorilla epoxy, Devcon Plastic Steel, Loctite Epoxy Weld, JB Weld original, JB Weld Kwik Weld, and JB ExtremeHeat. This more or less covers the entire gamut of epoxies you would find in the glue aisle of your local home supply store; the Gorilla epoxy is your basic 5-minute epoxy that comes in a double barrel syringe, and the JB Welds are the cream of the crop. It has a superb 4000PSI worth of tensile strength and is highly resistant to most external hazards, including water, high temperatures, solvents, acids, and more.

This doesn’t mean it’s not harmful if ingested in sufficient quantities, but a small gulp is harmless. JB weld will set in 4 to 6 hours to a dark gray color if you keep it at room temperature. It will be fully cured in 15 to 24 hours at room temperature. Since you have to mix two components together in JB weld, it is easy to mess up. On the other hand, in gorilla glue, you just have to carefully apply it, so there is less chance to mess up.

Lastly, for wood, Gorilla epoxy glue is the one you need. So, for gorilla glue vs epoxy for wood, the gap-filling, two-part Gorilla epoxy is what you should choose for a stronger bond. After assessing these two types of glue, I conclude that JB weld is better than Gorilla Glue, not just in one aspect. Surface prep is key. Clean is good, but rough is better. The epoxy needs to grab onto the surface. If there are edges, the epoxy can grab on to, the adhesion will be better. So, what do these results tell us? Cheap five-minute epoxy isn’t terrible, and actually better than the fancy new versions of JB Weld. Loctite is okay, and the Devcon and original JB Weld are at the top of their game. That’s not that surprising, as you can cast cylinder heads for engines out of JB Weld.

IS GORILLA EPOXY FOOD SAFE?

Moreover, you can drill, paint, tape, sand, or file the adhesive once it becomes dry. It won’t degrade in any way. Gorilla Glue is extremely toxic and has many health warnings stating that, if ingested, even death is a likely scenario. Both JB weld and gorilla glue work well for so many things like metal, plastics, etc. JB weld is mainly used for repair works because of its high tensile strength of 5020 PSI. On the other hand, for carpentry work, gorilla glue is the best because of its polyurethane glue formula. Epoxies are made of two liquid components, a resin and a hardener. When the hardener and resin are mixed equally, the bond will be extremely strong and permanent.
