I ran MS310s until 3 or 4 years ago, before finally replacing them with Neat Motive SX3s. The MS310 was a well respected, if budget, speaker of the '90s.

Unfortunately this happened for a lot of well respected British brands, such as Wharfedale and Quad, just to mention a few which have their current range mass-produced Far East. Mounted as described, the Mordaunt-Short MS20s gave a sharply-defined stereo spread and pleasing tonal quality. Of course the extreme bass slopes off rather steeply from systems of this size but the designers have resisted the temptation to introduce a false upper-bass hump—so characteristic of inferior loudspeakers—therefore mounting against a wall or in a corner could be tried jud ciously as a means of bass enhancement. The extreme treble does rise ever so slightly, which may be no bad thing on some audio-systems but produced a slight over-brightness and sibilance on my top-grade hi-fi set-up. The Signifer was reputedly really rather good and even today I quite hanker after a pair to try. It also shares something with Naim - the “acoustic environment balance” control which is located on the lower front crossover panel uses a little plastic knob that’s shared with the Naim NAC12, NAC22 and NAC32. That Chinese company is Audio Partnership, the same that owns Cambridge Audio. There is a business connection with Richer Sounds, hence Richers being the only UK dealer selling CA kit. They respond VERY well to thoughtful upgrades in electronics and ancillaries and if you can find them in light wood veneer their looks still draw appreciative comments that belie their age.

If pushed, they could be criticised for their slightly enthusiastic treble, but this wouldn't be a problem unless you matched them with electronics in a similar vein. To compare the speakers you would need to accurately know the specifications and the original selling price. When it gets down to two speakers, then only you wallet and your ears can tell you which is right. This subreddit is for the budget minded audiophile that wants to grow out of soundbars, boomboxes, mini systems, portable bluetooth, lifestyle speakers, and PC peripheral branded audio solutions.

Accross all genres of music they are outstanding. (believe me, my collection includes; relaxing classical, 90's dance, techno, pop, boyband stuff and even spice girls) Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 31st October 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) This is one of the best value-for-money speaker designs around, but there's just a little bit more care needed when matching your system to these dynamic, musical Mordaunt-Shorts than is the case with their obvious rivals. It is a reassuring characteristic of most of the smaller high-fidelity manufacturers in the UK that they do not bring out new models every few months just for the sake of drawing attention to themselves or introducing cosmetic changes. Mordaunt-Short belong to this small but reliable band, and in about 16 years of making loudspeakers they have modified their designs only two or three times as new materials or techniques have become available. However, the good news for the OP is that MS20i Pearl Editions would be an excellent and very cost effective upgrade and well worth waiting for a really good pair to come along.Consumer Electronics:TV, Video and Home Audio:Home Audio:Home Audio Components:Other Home Stereo Components Long-throw woofer for punchy bassThe woofer unit uses a long-throw lightweight bass cone for a tuneful and surprisingly powerful bass. A front-mounted bass port further enhances bass response, compared to the smaller M10. The bass port also raises the sensitivity, placing less of a demand on the amplifier. Deep notes, especially at lower volumes, are noticeably improved.

To my ears, these speakers offer a full sound. There is fantastic detail, yet lots of warmth. I position them 8cm from a rear wall. I've owned the speakers for 30 years because I've loved the sound. Sometimes when I turn up the volume I think there is a bit of high frequency distortion, otherwise I think they are as good as new. I've just bought a Denon DM 39 and am looking to upgrade my Gale 3010s bookshelf speakers. I'm undecided between the mordaunt short m20 and the diamond 9.1 Solid constructionLike the M10, the M20 has a cabinet constructed of heavy duty MDF. This rigidity helps the sound quality as it ensures the cabinet doesn’t distort and bring unnatural colouration to the sound. A neat touch with both drive units is the absence of visible fixings. This not only provides clean, good looks but also enhances the sound imaging as smooth surfaces enhance staging precision. Compact dimensions and a neutral finish help the M20 blend in to its surroundings.Electronics:Home Audio Stereos, Components:Speaker Parts and Components:Other Speaker Parts and Comp. I used these speakers with a Marantz PM6010 OSE KI amp, Videologic Digital tuner, QED silver anniversary cable and Atacama SE24 stands.

An alternative to new is to go for a different second hand speaker and that way you will be spending less and won't lose any money if you wish to re-sell. You can then compare/contrast easily in your own home environment and also with your MS 20's.

With Scott Walker's 30th Century Man playing, the 902is time really well, marshalling a natural tempo, and integrating voices and instruments pretty seamlessly. Plenty of fine detail is on display, with the 902is confident, assertive voice being beautifully judged.
