About this deal

V rámci úprimnosti by som sa mala k čomusi priznať. Čítala tajne pod perinou knihy, svietiac si baterkou, a snívala o vášnivých romanciach a cestovaní do ďalekých krajín. It makes me glad that I don’t have to fight with a landlord about my house thermostat. Just my husband! In this instalment, it looks like Nell has her life under control, her ship is sailing smoothly. Maybe she isn’t such a f##k up after all? Or are the wheels about to come off her wagon again?

The childless slant was quite relentless in this story, but as all light reads it wasn't meant to be taken too harshly, and all sides ended up being explored. More Confessions is set 18 months after the end of the first book and follows Nell's journey as she and the rest of the UK navigate the return to normal after Covid. Having spent a large amount of her time alone in her flat, she's looking forward to being able to get out and about again with her boyfriend, Edward, and her friends. Finally they can gather at each other's houses with no restrictions, they can go to the pub and enjoy a drink and they can even have weddings again! But then something happened that no one expected, turning the world upside down in a way no one could have ever imagined. Eighteen months on, life is finally returning to normal! But what is normal anymore? It’s rare for any book to actually make me laugh out loud like this one did (more than once) and for a book to resonate on so many levels with me.

Life is rarely a straight line, and as the saying goes, 'Life is not a puzzle to be solved, but a dance to be danced’. That's certainly the case for our forty-something protagonist, Nell, and we have a front-row seat to her grand rhapsody. I loved this book so much. It's very funny and painfully true. Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up is perfect comfort reading for anyone who thinks life isn't working out as they want it to, whether they're forty, fourteen or eighty-four -- Chrissie Manby, author of Once in a Lifetime

I also loved Nell's relationship with her family especially her father and that bit towards the end scared me to bits. There were some awkward conversations at the beginning with her mother as expected because her mum was still holding out hope for Nell to patch things up with her fiancée. It was all believable and I loved how it all came to be.

No old lady hair’ should have been included in our wedding vows as my husband has made me promise this on numerous occasions. 🤣 ——‘I might be in my eighties but I’m not having a cauliflower head….That’s what my friend Una called old lady hair. At my age you have to on guard against a short curly perm.’This is what we all want and this is what I try to do when my mum friends talk to me about their problems. I don’t give advice (what would I know about raising a child?), I don’t act as if it’s As Nell navigates the complexities of love, friendship, and self-discovery, I found myself nodding in agreement, pausing to reflect on my own life and decisions. Potter's witty prose and insightful exploration of life's messiness make for an unputdownable read that's both heartwarming and thought-provoking.

In the hilarious and heartfelt follow-up to Confessions of a Forty-Something F##k Up Nell discovers that there's no such thing as having it all figured out.

Summary

The thing is, no matter how settled you think you are, life always has alternative plans, and Nell's life is no different.
