About this deal

Speaking of found family, I think the greatest charm of this series, apart from its interminable cast of colourful characters, is its emphasis on found family and how it can be so much more important than any blood ties.

When they move up into the senior school, Hetty defends Polly from getting into trouble for correcting a teacher, and is locked in the Punishment Attic instead. I don't know if Jacqueline Wilson is planning on writing another volume in this series (I greatly hope she will), but if she does, I would very much like to see Hetty and Diamond in a much stable place by the end of it. When she was admitted, her hair was cut off and her Sunday clothes (as well as the doll Peg made her for Christmas) taken away to be burned, which upset her, and Gideon was taken to the Boy's Wing of the hospital. At the age of 20 I'm still keeping up to date with the Hetty Feather series after falling in love with it aged 14, but although the story of this volume was interesting, especially in terms of Hetty's further development into adulthood, I found it unfulfilling in relation to the story of the whole series. Hetty's memoirs are still going strong, and after her hard past, I believe she deserves her successful future - its only just begun.

Also, I know this is already 5 books long but we neeeeedddd another book as we need to know what happens - ahh I can't say anything because I might spoil it but I know there is potential for another book. A few reviews by Jacqueline Wilson fans expressed disappointment with this one, which is great news to me.

One of Jacqueline’s most successful and enduring creations has been the famous Tracy Beaker, who first appeared in 1991 in The Story of Tracy Beaker. He has won numerous awards for his picture books, including the Sheffield Children's Book Award and the 2001 Children's Book Award. Hetty and Diamond go to visit Madame Adeline, but all of Mr Marvel's monkeys and Mr Marvel himself have died, leaving only Madame Adeline and the baby monkey, Mavis. It's obvious that he still has feelings for Hetty and did not want to get married, instead wanting to run away with Hetty, but Hetty forces him to get married which makes an unhappy story for Jem, which I find sad as I really saw them having a chance.

After Mona finds out the truth about Aunty, she runs from everyone else and finds the Queen Elizabeth model, who is actually Hetty Feather. I really liked how when something bad were to happen to Hetty/Diamond, you will generally feel saddened and sympathetic. This is still the ambitious and determined foundling I fell in love reading about, but in a way I couldn't relate to her. Fifteen-year-old Hetty Feather and eight-year-old Diamond have escaped from Tanglefield’s Travelling Circus.Indeed, it sort of feels as if years have passed since the beginning of this book, and even more so since the beginning of the series (which is actually absolutely true in-universe), and while I'm still my old self, it's almost as if I've changed along with Hetty and her rich gallery of friends and found family.
