My only criticism is there was a degree of repetition when talking about some plants or tasks if they featured in several months but I think this is inevitable in gardening books. Whether you live in the countryside or the town, Monty’s observations and insights are relevant to each and every one of us.

This means that it is rich and intense and that is intensified by the extraordinary vigorous growth of plants in our wonderful Herefordshire loam. Our goal is to always have a supply of a good choice of vegetables that we enjoy eating on every single day of the year. A year ago his garden, Longmeadow, became the location for the filming of Gardeners’ World and this book takes the reader through a typical gardening year there. The book is also an easy read and if you watch Gardeners world it is easy to hear Monty’s voice in your head as you move through the pages.
