I thoroughly enjoyed the story and became fonder of the characters as they adapted to their new home and the details of the chateau , the people and the French way of life were marvellous. Throughout A Year At The Château, the dark bold text is Angel telling the story and the normal text is Dick. The chateau would fight back at times but the mistakes that were made were learnt from and the couple’s collaborative effort achieved positive results. I have been watching Escape To The Chateau since it's inception and have watched the chateau take on a whole new life. The Strawbridges documented their chateau journey for television, and even without having seen the series it's clear to me that they must have made good television.All the tables had vintage games and memorabilia that dated back to before the Second World War and each place setting had vintage china, cutlery and a vintage French napkin. Irreverent, witty and emotionally charged, Long's rollercoaster ride zones in with exquisite precision and perception on the dreams, despairs and dilemmas of all middle-aged women getting ready to say a final goodbye to their youth and looking forward to new beginnings. Channel 4 has been following and documenting their journey since 2015 when they bought the derelict château.

It is a tribute to their spirit of adventure, their 'can do' attitude and their strength of character in refusing to be daunted. Now there will be a lot of women - and men come to that - nodding their heads and thinking “yeah, I wouldn’t know what to do in that situation either”.Dick has a very soothing, melodious voice therefore, in my opinion, he is better at narration but Angel is so lovely that I enjoyed her parts just as much. The different personalities are well drawn but I would say my favourite was probably designer Leo, the King of Style. Angel’s lack of knowledge in certain DIY procedures and terms are entertaining, heartwarming and endearing and I can imagine it allows a lot of people out there to relate on some level.
